October 2024 & Safe Trick-or-Treating

It's time to enjoy fall decorations and a pumpkin spice treat as we move into October. Fall also means leaves on the ground - remember to be mindful when cleaning up the yard. Take breaks, switch sides while raking, don’t pack your leaf bags to be too heavy, and remember to pace yourself while working outdoors.

September was a busy month in our clinic. We hope you’ve noticed a few changes around the office, including our updated treatment rooms, new location of our exam room, and updated back admin high-low desk. We’ve also updated our phone system, and have added a new doorway to our staff kitchen area. In the next month, you’ll notice floor repairs, updated wall paint, photos on the walls, and newly organized storage areas. If you don’t see Dr. Hubbel holding an Activator in his hand, he’s probably holding a hammer or drywall saw… He is our lead contractor!

On September 18, Dr. Leguard spent a day at CFB Trenton, as she was invited to participate in the Executrek Program. The purpose of the program is to provide employers with a first-hand view of the quality of military training for potential hires, as well as an understanding how the military fits into our communities. Interestingly, Dr. Leguard learned that there was no Chiropractor working on the air base, but there was certainly a need. She got to ride in a Hercules Model J during a cargo drop exercise, observe a search and rescue exercise in a Griffin Helicopter, fly a flight simulator, rappel off a building, shoot simulator rifles, and interact with military leaders. She had a very interesting day - but rest assured she will not be joining the Air Force any time soon!

Ed’s House hosted their annual Hike, Bike and Bark event on September 29. Most of our staff were able to attend, along with some family members and pups in support of Ed’s House. We appreciate our community’s support as we collected financial donations for the hospice. Your support helps us to give back to our community.

Isla, Dr. Johnston’s youngest daughter has been adjusting well to her first month of junior kindergarten. On Isla’s “first day of JK” board, she stated that she wanted to be a Chiropractor like her mom when she grows up. Maybe Dr. Hubbel will finally be ready to retire when Isla finishes chiropractic college!

A few more Clinic Updates…

Upcoming dates:

  • Drs. Leguard and Johnston will be participating in a Habitat for Humanity build with the Cobourg Rotary Club on October 5th.

  • Our clinic will be closed Monday, October 14th to celebrate Thanksgiving with our families.

  • We will be celebrating World Spine Day (the most important day of the year) on October 16th.

  • We are looking forward to Carleigh’s birthday on October 18th.

  • Halloween costumes will be donned on October 31st in the clinic. Will our costumes beat last year’s Chiropractic Barbie ensemble?

  • Myranda will be taking some time off at the end of the month to have her tonsils removed, so make sure to wish her luck.

As of January 2025 our fees will be increasing, which was last done in 2019. After reviewing industry standards and current market rates, we've noticed that like us, many other chiropractic practices needed to adjust their pricing. In order to continue providing the high level of care you expect from us, we're making a small adjustment to our fees.

  • Regular Adjustment $50

  • Senior Adjustment $45

  • Student Adjustment $40

  • Re-Activated patient $75 (existing patient who has not been in our clinic for 3 years)

  • New patient $125

Quick Tips for a Safe and Fun Trick-or-Treating Experience

Delores and Roger (Carleigh’s kids) last year on Halloween.

  • Costume Safety:

    • Choose costumes with reflective gear or add reflective tape for visibility at night. Make sure masks or accessories don’t obstruct your child's vision, and opt for comfortable shoes to avoid tripping.

  • Check Candy:

    • Before letting your child dive into their haul, inspect all candy for tampering. Be mindful of any allergens, especially if your child has food allergies.

  • Stay Together:

    • Younger kids should always be accompanied by an adult. For older kids, use the buddy system to ensure no one is trick-or-treating alone.

  • Traffic Awareness:

    • Remind your kids to look both ways before crossing the street, and always cross at corners or crosswalks. Holding hands with younger kids ensures they stay safe from passing cars.

  • Set Time Limits:

    • Decide on a start and end time for trick-or-treating, and make sure your child knows when to head home to avoid wandering the streets too late.

  • Manners Matter:

    • Encourage kids to say “thank you” at every stop. It’s a great way to instill gratitude while they enjoy the fun of gathering treats.

  • Carry a Flashlight:

    • As it gets darker, a flashlight will help with visibility and avoid tripping hazards, making it safer for everyone.

By keeping these simple tips in mind, you can ensure a safe, enjoyable, and memorable Halloween night for the whole family!
