Meet Our Doctors

  • Dr. Morgan Hubbel has been a chiropractor in Cobourg since 1960. After practicing downtown for 50 years, he moved to a smaller office on Elgin Street where he spent five years in an office with two other chiropractors.

In August of 2015, Dr. Hubbel moved into a brand-new office, at 163 Elgin St. East. This provided more space and allowed Dr. Stephanie Johnston to join the practice. In 2021, his oldest granddaughter Dr. Sydney Hubbel Leguard joined the practice, after many years of grandpa patiently waiting. All three doctors continue to provide the Activator Methods chiropractic care that patients have come to expect.

  • Dr. Hubbel was very excited to welcome Dr. Stephanie Johnston to the practice. Dr. Johnston developed her passion to help others early in life and continued to strive to obtain her goal of becoming a chiropractor, as she attended Queen’s University studying Biology.

In addition to training and treating individuals with the Activator, she has taken courses to work with infants, toddlers, and pregnant women.

Dr. Johnston’s goal is to help people create and achieve their healthcare goals naturally through the art of chiropractic.

Dr. Johnston is an active member of the Rotary Club of Cobourg and the Cobourg Legion Minor Softball Organization. She enjoys exploring Northumberland County with her husband and two daughters, Alexandria and Isla.

  • Dr. Leguard was born and raised in Cobourg and is very excited to return to her hometown to practice with her grandfather and Dr. Johnston. Since she was a young child, growing up around her grandfather’s practice on Third Street, she knew that she wanted to be a chiropractor and help people. She went on to earn her Kinesiology degree from UOIT and later graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College Magna Cum Laude in 2021.

Dr. Leguard treats patients using Activator Methods and has a special interest in jaw and facial pain, nerve irritations, knee injuries, pediatric and family care.

Meet The Rest Of The Team

Chiropractic History

Dr. Morgan J Hubbel graduated from CMCC in May 1959 and started his practice in March 1960 in Cobourg, Ontario, at 150 King Street West (across from the old CDCI West). Three years later, the practice moved to a larger location at 197 Third Street, where they stayed forty-seven years. He and his wife, Joan Hubbel, renovated the home so that half of the main floor was dedicated to the office and the rest was their residence. Over the years, continuous upgrades were made to the building, transforming it into a beautiful, well recognized in downtown Cobourg. In 2010, after celebrating fifty years in practice and forty-seven years in that location, Dr. Hubbel joined another well-established practice at 9 Elgin Street East, planning for reduced workload and eventual retirement.

In 2015, Dr. Hubbel moved to a brand new building shared with Northumberland Optometry, where he still practices with Dr. Stephanie Johnston. In 2021, his granddaughter, Dr. Sydney Hubbel Leguard joined their practice. Dr. Johnston and Dr. Leguard now operate the practice, and are happy to have Dr. Hubbel around for his mentorship and support.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hubbel has been actively involved in chiropractic events, attending countless conventions and seminars, including those by the OCA, CCA, and World Federation of Chiropractic. He has been heavily involved in the teaching of Activator Method Seminars in Toronto and across North America, being one of the first Canadian doctors to use the technique. Dr. Hubbel's practice has been exclusively Activator Methods over the past 45 years, and he was once appointed the Regional Director for Activator Methods for Central Canada.

Despite reducing his patient load in recent years, Dr. Hubbel continues to see patients two mornings each week and plans to retire as soon as he is old enough.

Dr. Stephanie Johnston

Dr. Stephanie Johnston's interest in chiropractic began during her second year at Queen's University. Growing up as a chiropractic patient, she witnessed the positive impact of chiropractic care on her family and recognized its rewarding nature. This led her to pursue a career in chiropractic, and she attended the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, graduating in 2014.

After graduation, Dr. Johnston gained experience working as an associate chiropractor in Toronto and Brampton. During this time, she realized her goal of clinic ownership and sought out a mentor to guide her in practice management. In January 2015, she met Dr. Hubbel, who became her mentor. Inspired by his guidance, Dr. Johnston moved to Cobourg in August 2015, and together they opened Hubbel & Johnston Chiropractic at its current location. Dr. Johnston is an Advanced Proficiency rated Activator Methods Doctor and instructor, benefiting from Dr. Hubbel's mentorship in these areas. Dr. Johnston is now one of the owners of the clinic, with Dr. Leguard.

Dr. Sydney Hubbel Leguard

Dr. Leguard's path to becoming a chiropractor was deeply rooted in her family's legacy. Growing up, she observed her grandfather's healing impact on their community, sparking her own desire to follow in his footsteps. From a young age, she eagerly “helped" in his clinic, initially working at the front desk, helping grandpa “read x-rays” and eventually, covering staff vacations during summers as a teenager.

Her decision to pursue chiropractic became resolute at sixteen when she experienced a knee injury, in which chiropractic care was instrumental in her recovery. After completing her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and her Doctor of Chiropractic Degree at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, Dr. Leguard joined her grandfather and Dr. Johnston in their practice in July 2021. Embracing Activator Methods as her primary technique, she purchased her grandfather's remaining share of the clinic, now co-owning Hubbel & Johnston Chiropractic with Dr. Johnston.

Dr. Leguard considers herself fortunate to share her career with her grandfather, often seeking his wisdom and advice, playfully reminding him that retirement isn't yet on the horizon.
