June 2024
Welcome June! We have had enough rainfall this spring to help all the beautiful flowers and gardens begin to flourish. Gardening can be a wonderful mental break, good exercise, and a good time to get some much needed fresh air. Be cautious of unwanted side effects; unwanted body aches and pains. Remember to build-in breaks, and ask us for our gardening handout for some stretches to try in between planting and weeding.
Seasonal allergies seem to be more widespread this year. One of the best things you can do is stay as healthy as you can to maintain your immune system’s function - exercise, sleep, and eat well. Be cautious that remedies don’t interact with other medications you may be taking. It is always a good idea to consult your pharmacist, or a naturopath before self-prescription.
As many of you may know, Dr. Hubbel’s wife of 65 years, Joan, passed away on May 16th. We are holding a private family service in June. We have appreciated your condolences and kind words over the last few weeks.
An update on the Leguard sisters - Ainsley is nearly finished articling at Osler in Toronto, and will be called to the Bar on June 27th. She will officially be a lawyer after this. She then starts a clerkship in Ottawa at the Federal Court of Appeal in August. Chloe successfully finished her first year at Western Law, and is working for a law professor this summer on some interesting work including sports arbitrations, mediations and contributing to a number of publications. Chloe will be participating in the “2L recruit”, meaning that she will be preparing and applying for a 2025 summer position with law firms in Toronto.
Dr. Johnston will not be in the clinic on the last Friday of June as she will be helping organize the vendors at the Waterfront festival. Dr. Leguard will be volunteering this year as a Rotarian for the first time, so keep an eye peeled!
Both Dr. L and H will be away June 27th for Ainsley’s Call to the Bar.
Our staff and their families involvement in the Cameco Mental Health walk was excellent - we raised over $100 and enjoyed participating together. Both Carleigh, Dr. Johnston, Isla and Alexandria will be playing baseball this summer. Dr. Leguard is playing beach volleyball.
